First Blog Post! :)

 Hello my fellow web watchers,

My name is Gregory Afolabi-Brown and I am currently a senior studying communications at Mount St. Mary's University in Emmitsburg Maryland. I was born and raised only an hour away from the my college in the city of Gaithersburg. A fun fact about me along with my two older sisters and twin brother is that we are all first generation Americans. My mother was born and raised in London England and my Father was born and raised in Lagos Nigeria (my mother's parents were born in the same city as my father). I am also a division one level swimmer who's been swimming competitively for over 15 years. However, after I graduate I will be hanging up my goggles for the last time and will begin a new chapter in my life.

I enjoy working out and staying active as much as I can. Which made swimming the most ideal choice for me. When covid-19 first hit and all fitness facilities were shutdown I felt as if I was losing my mind not being able to go to the gym or swim. However, I was able to pick up an old elementary school discipline again which I found to be surprisingly similar to swimming. That activity was skateboarding. The differences that set skateboarding and swimming apart are not hard to see, but the similarities I found between the two is what I believe helped me progress in my skating journey so quickly. This has also lead me to look at working out very differently. Mostly in the sense that paying for a gym membership to stay in shape is now a waste of money in my opinion.

My hopes for this blog is to give readers insight into several different ways to get active, while target specific muscle groups, and increasing overall well being through alternative methods of working out (without going to the gym). Don't get me wrong, I love hitting new PR's (personal bests) for my squats, deadlifts, bench, ect, and being able to visibly see the physical progress being made through those PR's. However, I've learned a lot through my years as an athlete, one of the most important things being form over everything. Most people don't have good form and that can lead to a lifetime of injuries down the line. I hope to help those interested find fun healthier alternatives to heavy lifting, running, and even biking to stay in shape!
